If you head west away on route 4046 from the small city of Trang in southern Thailand towards the coast in the Sikao district, the road will eventually fork and the street signs will present two choices to you: the way to Pak Meng beach or the way to Rajamangala beach. Most tour groups and vans will take you to Pak Meng where people will get on boats to tour the islands. If you go to Rajamangala (I’ve seen this place referred to as Ratchamongkol) and drive through the university campus, you’ll find a stretch of open beach with hardly any people around save for some locals. There are no tourist facilities except maybe an area for camping. It’s a beautiful, largely unspoiled piece of nature.
