One last one for the ladies. There are PhotoWalks, and then there is the #LAPhotoWalk . Not very many places where you just happen to run into Abercrombie-class professional models just chilling at the beach. They were quite nice guys, and are genuinely happy to have their photo taken.

Fun times were had at the #LAPhotoWalk outing at Santa Monica Pier this afternoon with +Trey Ratcliff and +Tom Anderson. I wasn't expecting much in the way of a brilliant sunset. I could see a thick layer of marine fog towards the horizon. That's going to block the sun from projecting its red rays onto the clouds overhead. Sure enough, that's what happened.

No matter, there are still other opportunities to make a great photo. I was more or less at the same spot where I took this previous photo:

This time I wanted to avoid shooting the ferris wheel and instead focus on the end of the pier. I noticed in the photo last time that the lights had come on after sundown. Instead of using the wide-angle, I put on my zoom lens and tried to capture the end of the pier, the area with the most lights. By stopping down to f/16 I was able to create the starburst effect. I was bracketing my shots, intending to create an HDR later, but this image below came out pretty nice, with only some minor exposure and color tweaking.

I got my feet wet (literally) on the way to taking this photograph (by the way, photo tip: When shooting at the beach, have spare socks and spare shoes in the car if you can).
